Staying Cool

Even after living in Gig Harbor for 6 years, I still find myself saying that it just isn't hot enough during the summer. Having grown up in the midwest I got used to sweating as soon as you open the door and feeling as though you can cut through the air with a knife. People think I'm crazy when I say I miss the humidity. I guess summer just isn't summer unless you are uncomfortable. Well, the Northwest got a great taste of what that's like this last week. It has been in the 100's here! *most people don't have air conditioning in their homes either.* To keep ourselves from melting like our butter was on the kitchen counter, we've been spending some time at Sam's parents pool. Søren has a new found love for the water. With that love comes no fear. We constantly have to watch him or he'll jump right in, floaties or no floaties. (I love the barking at the end of the video.)

17 months

Turning 17 months seems to have made a
big difference in two areas for Søren.

1. He talks all of the time. I really think he is
    speaking a foreign language.
2. ENERGY! He has transitioned from two naps a day to one nap a day, yet he seems to have much more energy. He literally runs around the house, for no reason other than to run.

Other things he's been up to this past month

new words:
bee
wah-da (water)
eee-see (Reese's)
ball

He has picked up on the game of baseball. Whether it be his bat, golf club or broom, he'll swing it around, drop whatever he was holding and run. He'll pick it up and start all over again. We didn't teach him this, so we think he figured it out from watching dad's softball games.

We have lazily begun potty training. He has a little toilet that if he sits on it (yes, just sits on it) he gets a Reese's Pieces. We've had success 3 times with him peeing in the toilet. Sam and I never thought we could ever get so excited about pee.

Has a new found love for blueberries. Ask him to say blueberry and I guarantee you it will make you smile. I have to get this on video. There is no way I could even attempt to spell out how he says blueberry.

Smocked Sundress

It has been wonderful to be reunited with my sewing machine. My first projects since I've been back home have been these adorable "smocked sundresses." I can't wait to see them on the little girls and I hope their mothers take a picture (hint hint). They were super easy to make and I've got quite a list of friends having girls this fall, so I'm sure plenty more will be made.

6 years

I was reminded today that it was 6 years ago that I packed up my car and drove out west with my dad to move to Gig Harbor, WA. It's amazing that everything I owned fit in my car and now I dying to have a garage sale to get rid of stuff.
It was really hard leaving my family and friends. I only knew 2 people in Gig Harbor. It has been fun to look back and see all that has happened in these last 6 years; meeting my husband, buying our first home, having a baby, building incredible relationships and so much more. It is a great reminder that the Lord really does know what is best for me. Why don't I put my life in his hands more often?
This is my favorite picture of Gig Harbor that I took from a friends deck about 4 years ago. This captures all that I have come to love about the great northwest; it's peaceful, beautiful and majestic.

4th of July

We had a pretty laid back 4th of July. It was great to be able to hop in the boat and cruise over to a friends house for a BBQ. I love being out on the boat and I think Søren enjoyed it as well. He was talking the whole time.  I hope we take advantage of every opportunity we have to get out on the water this summer, whether it be by boat or maybe I'll even get out in my kayak this season.
